Safe Packaging of Medical Marijuana Edibles

We have always prided ourselves in our ability to work within and for many different industries, so when we began to get approached by companies asking us to supply to the medical marijuana industry, the answer as always, was a resounding “Yes”!

The medical marijuana industry has very specific needs when it comes to packaging their edibles. If you are unfamiliar with marijuana edibles, think of it this way: instead of having to smoke marijuana for medical reasons, you can instead receive all of the benefits from the THC through a different delivery system. That system is food that has been prepared with cannabis as an ingredient.

As you can imagine, safe packaging of these products are of utmost importance, especially to those who live with young children, the elderly, or even just unsuspecting family members. The number of people who are accidentally ingesting marijuana edibles has been growing, and we are working to make sure that it doesn’t continue to happen.

Federal standard CFR1700.20 and ASTM D3475-13 clarify the child-resistant requirements for packaging in which the design of said packages must be difficult for children under the age of 5 to open. We have developed a new child-resistant package for the industry that meets these standards yet is still simple to use for an adult. Clear directions on label graphics explain to adults how to open the package, while the design itself makes it difficult for a child.
